Printing Process
Once you have placed your order with us we begin work on it right away. Your order will go through many steps before it is complete. Below is a step-by-step description of the printing process.Desk Top Design Support ~ Step 1
We currently support numerous software packages. On Macintosh: indesign, PageMaker, Quark, FreeHand, PhotoShop, and on PC: indesign, PageMaker, Illustrator and PhotoShop. As new releases become available we are committed to continued training and software upgrades.
- Technical information & consultation.
- Color copies.
- Proof reading.
- Scanning of line art and logos, black and white and color photographs.
Image Assembly ~ Step 2
- Highly qualified employees merge digital technology with traditional methods to prepare your job for the printing press.
- Our commitment to environmentally sound printing begins here with total recovery of all effluent products.
Press Room ~ Step 3
- Utilizing both offset and digital equipment we are equipped to handle the most complex printing design.
- Over 5,000 jobs and over 250,000,000 equivalent 8-1/2 x 11 pages of information are produced annually.
- The printing inks that we use are soy based.
- Virtually all our fine printing papers are recycled and contain a minimum of 10% post consumer waste.
Bindery ~ Step 4
- Standard binding techniques like folding, stitching, cutting, numbering, padding and other methods are done on state of the art equipment by our bindery staff.
- Foil Stamping, perfect binding, embossing, die cutting and numerous other special binding requirements can all be handled through our office.
- Printing Services cooperates and endorses the paper recycling program at the University. All scrap paper and cardboard are recycled. In addition, all printing plates and photographic film are recycled.
Delivery ~ Step 5
- Your finished job will be delivered to you, or you may pick it up at the Printing Services office.
- There is no charge for our courier service, which provides daily service to the campus and CEL locations.
- Please call (989) 774- 3216 or (989) 774-3217 for this service, which also includes pick-up and delivery of copy, page proofs, or any material related to your job.
Mailing ~ Step 6
Our mailroom handles non-profit bulk, regular bulk and 1st class pre-sort mail. You qualify as a non-profit if you are not advertising travel, retail or business related information.

Postal regulations REQUIRE that all bulk mailings have a CURRENT mailing list that has been updated within 95 days prior to the date of mailing.
